| Name | Manganese MIC (Methionine, Inositol, Choline) |
| Uses | Combination formula used to support fat metabolism, liver function, and cellular health. Methionine supports lipid metabolism and detoxification, Inositol supports cell signaling and fat transport, Choline aids in liver health and fat breakdown, and Manganese supports enzymatic function and antioxidant activity. Commonly used in wellness IV protocols for metabolic support, weight management, and liver health. |
| Route Of Administration | Intravenous (IV) |
| Frequency Of Use | Typically administered once weekly for general metabolic and liver support. In weight management programs, may be given up to twice weekly for 4 to 6 weeks, followed by reassessment. Long-term use should be re-evaluated every 8 to 12 weeks. |
| Concentration(s) | Common compounded concentrations: Methionine 25 mg/mL, Inositol 50 mg/mL, Choline 50 mg/mL, Manganese 0.1 mg/mL. Final concentration varies based on custom formulations. |
| Maximum Dosage (Day, Wk) (g/mL)/mL | Maximum dose per infusion: 10 mL of combined MIC formulation. Maximum weekly dose: 20 mL. Higher doses are not recommended for elective wellness patients due to risk of hepatic strain and electrolyte imbalance. |
| Contraindications | Severe hepatic or renal impairment. Active gallbladder disease. Known hypersensitivity to methionine, inositol, choline, manganese, or any component of the formulation. Pregnancy and breastfeeding unless specifically cleared by OB provider. Use caution in patients with pre-existing electrolyte imbalances. |
| Possible Side Effects | Nausea, headache, flushing, mild dizziness, or metallic taste during infusion. Injection site irritation. Rare: allergic reaction (rash, itching, hypersensitivity). Prolonged excessive dosing could impair liver function or contribute to metabolic imbalances. |
| Compatibility With Other Drugs | Compatible with normal saline and D5W. May be combined with B vitamins, magnesium, and other nutrients in wellness IV blends, but compatibility should always be verified prior to mixing. |
| Allergies | True allergy to individual components is rare, but sensitivity to preservatives or stabilizers in compounded formulations is possible. |
| Administration Time | Typical infusion time: 30 to 60 minutes, depending on total volume and patient tolerance. |
| IV Dosing | For general metabolic and liver support: 5 mL to 10 mL IV once weekly. For weight management: 10 mL IV once or twice weekly for 4 to 6 weeks, followed by reassessment. |
| IM/Push | May be administered IM for smaller doses (up to 5 mL). IV infusion is preferred for larger doses to reduce risk of injection site irritation. |
| What To Do If Adverse Reaction Occurs | 1. Stop the infusion immediately. 2. Assess vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation). 3. If mild symptoms (nausea, flushing, headache) occur, place patient in a comfortable position, slow the infusion if necessary, and provide oral fluids if tolerated. 4. For allergic reactions (rash, itching, shortness of breath), administer antihistamines and consider epinephrine if symptoms are severe. 5. If hypotension occurs, lay patient flat and consider administering a normal saline bolus. 6. If symptoms worsen or do not resolve, arrange for emergency transfer to a higher level of care (call 911 if necessary). |
